INTRODUCING BIZZY MUM, KARIN KLENNER
Your name: Karin Klenner
Business name: Sweet Little Treat Cakes
How many/ how old are your kids:
Brax - 11 yrs old
Rocco - 10 years old
How long you have been in business: I had my ten year business birthday last year!
Did you always want to work for yourself?
No I had a lot of different jobs working for others!
I worked with horses, I worked at pizza hut when I was 16 🤣. I worked in bars, a coffee cart, a fitness instructor, I worked at a church office (terrible admin skills I have but I was happy and friendly haha).
What's your favourite and least favourite thing about working for yourself?
Worst is I hate that when I am hurt or sick I can't call in sick because there is no one to cover me!
Best - I can be home to pick up my kids, I can work flexible hours and take time off... if it's booked 6 months in advance 🤣
How do you manage switching between all the different hats of business and motherhood?
I fail every day. Honestly I struggle with this. It's overwhelming and I feel like I am always dropping the ball somewhere.
Have you got any embarrassing failures you've learnt from?
Not really embarrassing but terrifying haha! The pressure of wearing all the hats, I have missed actually booking in two cakes but I got them done in time and one person had no idea it even happened! Both 3D cakes as well. Of course it didn't happen with easy cakes 🤣🤣.
What's 3 apps /programs /services you cannot live without?
I run my business from Facebook & Instagram so they are great and hugely annoying at the same time haha! I feel like I couldn't live without my cake board shop, incredible service, always so helpful! Dee Sees creations. I can't live without them! They have the most beautiful home made cake tins as well!
What does success look like to you?
It doesn't come in the form of followers or status.
Success to me is consistently having a high quality product/in my case cake. And happy clients that book or recommend me time and time again. Success is friends & family that are proud of me. Success is having integrity.
What is your business why?
Creating incredible cake art that tastes even better than it looks.
What's one thing you would tell your younger self as a new parent or fresh business owner?
Know your worth. Charge your worth. Find your own style, don't get lost in other people's journey.
Is there anything your kids have taught you that has helped you in business?
Help, or give me anxiety?? Haha!
When they were toddlers they taught me to not trust them near anything edible!!
Brax my 11 year old will always be so honest if something isn't perfect! I have been told to redo something on more that one occasion... Honestly though, Dory looked perfect, I don't know what he was talking about!!
Do you have a top business tip or piece of advice?
Focus on your own business. Stop comparing yourself to others. Work hard, focus on your own high standard and integrity and your own style and people will come.
What are your favourite things you do to look after your mental health?
My morning walks and gym time.
What does "Karin time" look like?
Walking the dog, coffee with friends and gymming.
What is YOUR favourite cake to eat?
Ohhhh I love all my cake flavours!! Apple spice is probably my top fave but I happily eat my cake every week for 10 years plus and am not sick of it!
